Tucked into the rolling countryside of Stillwater, Auckland, this project blends natural materials and structured form to create a timeless outdoor retreat. The design features Paradise Stone staircases and crazy paving, offering an organic flow that complements the surrounding rural setting.
Rustic used railway sleepers form robust raised planters and retaining edges, softened by mulched garden beds planted with lavender, lancewood, and herbs. Natural boulders are nestled throughout, grounding the design and adding a sculptural element.
The Paradise Stone staircase was carefully hand-laid to create a seamless transition between levels, while the crazy paving provides a textural, permeable surface that ties the space together. This project showcases craftsmanship and balance—where rugged materials meet refined layout—to create a landscape that feels both functional and beautifully at home in its environment.
In addition to the hard landscaping, we also undertook the excavation and replanting of two ponds on the property. To ensure long-term stability and ecological health, we used coconut fibre matting along the pond banks for erosion control and rehabilitated the area with native plantings. This approach supports local biodiversity while blending the ponds naturally into the wider landscape.
